13th Amendment


The 13th amendment abolished slavery with the exception of use for punishment for crimes. It was passed by the senate on April 8, 1864, and ratified on December 6, 1865. It was different form the Emancipation Proclamation because the proclamation was very limited in its aspects of controlling slavery.
